Disney Theme Park Expansion: Full List of New Attractions

Disney Theme Park Expansion: Full List of New Attractions

Disney made headlines this week when it announced developments of “unprecedented” magnitude at its parks, including the largest land expansion in Orlando.

As part of its justification for the monumental transformation, the company invoked founder Walt Disney’s ethos that “Disneyland will never be finished. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination in the world.”

Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, unveiled the list of projects, including new attractions and lands, at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on Saturday.

“Only Disney can create timeless experiences that entertain and inspire people of all ages, generations and geographies,” said D’Amaro. “At Disney Experiences, we invest in stories that stand the test of time and bring them to life in ways that surprise our guests and fans every day.”

The expansion is part of Disney’s decision to invest heavily in its Experiences division, which consists of parks, hotels and cruises, to bolster its fledgling streaming service Disney+ and its recently disappointing box office results.

Disney owns six theme park resorts in Florida, California, France, Japan, Hong Kong and China.

Here is the list of recently announced new attractions.

Rogueland

The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, brings new and classic stories to life in a land themed around Disney villains.

Further details will follow shortly, but construction of this new site is already underway and will include two new attractions as well as restaurants, shopping and other amenities.

Cars

Based on the animated series, it is now finding its way to the Magic Kingdom. In a newly designed part of Frontierland, guests can embark on two new Cars Attractions: one is an exciting off-road rally race, the other is a family-friendly attraction.

Cars is one of Disney’s most popular franchises, having grossed $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office. The new attraction will join Radiator Springs at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

Esperanza, Encanto and the exciting adventures of Indiana Jones

The park in Orlando is also getting a new area in its Animal Kingdom and will take guests on adventures in tropical America.

As you pass through Pueblo Esperanza, a fictional village in the heart of the rainforest, and then into the outskirts of town, an adventure with legendary archaeologist Indiana Jones awaits. The attraction takes place in a mysterious Mayan temple and will be an all-new adventure that Disney says will be unlike any other Indiana Jones attraction around the world.

The land of tropical America will also have a new attraction based on a cartoon Magical. It will be the film’s first ride at a Disney park and is set in Casita the day after young Antonio receives his gift to communicate with animals.

The opening of Tropical Americas is planned for 2027.

Monsters Inc.

Not to be confused with the theme park in California, Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World is getting a new area where guests can explore the Laugh Factory and where the first suspended roller coaster in a Disney park can be found. It will feature the famous flying doors from the Monsters Inc. Movies.

“The power of friendship and laughter is at the heart of so many Disney stories – especially Monsters Inc.said D’Amaro at D23. “Now we’re offering fans a whole new way to experience this world in a Disney theme park and connect with the characters they love.”

avenger

Disneyland will double the size of its Avengers Campus as part of its expansion and will feature two new Marvel-themed attractions. The first is an attraction called Avengers Infinity Defense, where visitors battle King Thanos, who stole the technology that allows the Avengers to jump between worlds.

The other new attraction will see Robert Downey Jr. reprise his role as Iron Man in the Stark Flight Lab, where passengers sit in two-person pods and are taken to a testing station. The pods are then controlled by a robotic arm that grabs the pod and spins it around in a simulated flight.

Avatar

The box office hit Avatar: The Way of Water and upcoming Avatar Movies inspired an attraction at Disneyland.

It will be different from Avatar Land at Disney World in Florida and will include a new boat ride through the world of Pandora.
