Maine man confesses to crimes in Seneca County; faces up to 10 years in prison – Finger Lakes Daily News

A man who committed several robberies in Tyre earlier this year has agreed to a deal that could see him sentenced to up to ten years in prison.

Seneca County District Attorney John Nabinger announced that Ron Poore, a Maine resident, pleaded guilty in Seneca County District Court to robbery and bail jumping charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced in September and could face between 3 1/3 and 10 years in prison.

The incidents occurred on March 9 and 10. Poore first robbed a woman of $200 at an ATM at Love’s Travel Stop and fled the scene in an SUV, leaving police unable to stop him. The next day, Poore stole $400 from a clerk at the Circle K store. Authorities said the description of the suspect and his vehicle matched the previous day’s incident. Later that same day, Poore attempted to rob another victim at Petro Travel Stop, threatening to use a weapon despite not displaying one. The victim was able to fight him off.

Poore’s vehicle was eventually discovered in the parking lot of the del Lago Resort & Casino. Police, working with del Lago security, coordinated a successful operation to arrest Poore as he attempted to flee the casino. Investigation revealed that the vehicle Poore was driving had been reported stolen in Gates, Monroe County, although it remains unclear why Poore was in upstate New York.

Initially, Poore was charged with third-degree robbery because no firearm was displayed during the incidents. Under New York’s bail reform laws, these charges are not bailable, which resulted in Poore being released on his own recognizance after his arraignment. However, he failed to appear at a scheduled court date, which resulted in a warrant being issued for his arrest. Poore was eventually arrested in Maine and returned to Seneca County to face the charges.

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson criticized New York’s bail reform efforts and expressed frustration over Poore’s initial release and subsequent failure to appear in court.
