1-year-old dead after father allegedly kidnapped children

A one-year-old boy has died after a father allegedly kidnapped his three children.

According to a statement from Virginia Beach Police To On Thursday, August 15, police received a report of a stabbing in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Wednesday, August 14, at approximately 8:48 p.m.

At the crime scene, police discovered “two female victims – one adult and one juvenile – both with numerous stab wounds.”

The two victims of the stabbing were taken to local hospitals and are said to be in stable condition.

“The preliminary investigation indicates this was a domestic incident,” the statement continued, adding that Dana Plummer – a 36-year-old Virginia Beach man – “believed to have stabbed both victims before fleeing the scene with his children: two male juveniles, ages 7 and 5, and a female child, age 1.”

After an Amber Alert was issued, a citizen recognized the vehicle driven by Plummer and alerted authorities. According to the statement, the suspect then allegedly drove through a police-ordered traffic stop and soon lost control of the vehicle, resulting in an accident.

Plummer was arrested at the scene. The one-year-old was taken to hospital but “later succumbed to her injuries.”

Plummer was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with intent to cause bodily harm, three counts of child abduction, four counts of inducing a minor to commit a crime and domestic violence.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones who are grieving this morning,” Police Chief Paul Neudigate said in the press release. “This is an unimaginable tragedy and on behalf of the VBPD, I extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this loss.”
