The best network cop series not called Hill Street Blues is ready to impress a new generation.

For years, Homicide topped the list of the best series that were not available for streaming. A dispute over the music rights was one of the main reasons why the series remained in the archives. But the delay was also due to the fact that the drama series from the 90s was never particularly popular or noticeable. Bullets rarely flew.

Instead, the action depended on the great cast, which included Melissa Leo and the late Andre Braugher, chatting about movies, furniture and conspiracies – anything that distracted them from the gruesome nature of their work. If you never saw the original series, or want to relive a time when networks took risks, Homicide is the TV marathon of the year. Monday, Peacock

James Cameron hosts this six-part docuseries in which a group of overzealous conservationists use equipment straight out of a James Bond movie to capture footage of hammerhead sharks, humpback whales and polar bears. Despite attempts to make the research look like scenes from an action movie, this excursion is strictly for science and nature buffs. Sunday, 8 p.m., National Geographic; streams Monday on Disney+ and Hulu

Cameron’s fascination with the sea didn’t begin with Titanic. This 1989 adventure film, in which Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio play explorers who have an unexpected encounter deep underwater, was a box office flop, perhaps because of its spiritual tone. But it is Cameron’s most moving work – one worth rediscovering. Hulu, Paramount+, Apple TV+

Michael Keaton stars and directs this 2023 thriller in which an assassin suffering from a rare form of dementia tries to put things right before he loses his memory completely. The story has a lot in common with 2000’s Memento, directed by recent Oscar winner Christopher Nolan, but it lacks that film’s clever twists and urgent pace. Still, it’s always a pleasure to watch Keaton let his hair down, especially when he does so with co-stars like Al Pacino and Marcia Gay Harden. Max

This documentary about the death of NFL quarterback Steve McNair is both a crime thriller and a sports portrait. It tells the story of his rapid rise with the Tennessee Titans and details of his murder. Next topics under the “Untold” banner include football icon Hope Solo and the sign-stealing system at the University of Michigan. Tuesday, Netflix
