The 18th annual Old US 27 Motor Tour will travel through central Michigan next week, with five stops in Gratiot and Clare counties.
The six-day event begins on Monday with a cruise and overnight stay in Coldwater.
On Tuesday, participants travel to Waterloo, Indiana, where they have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities such as go-kart racing and mini golf at the Adventure Zone before returning to Coldwater.
On Wednesday there will be a poker run and scavenger hunt starting at 9am, followed by lunch before heading to Potterville and then on to DeWitt for an evening downtown cruise-in.
After an overnight stay in DeWitt, the tour will meet in St. Johns on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. before continuing to Gratiot County, with stops in Ithaca from 11:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Alma from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and St. Louis from 3:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The caravan then makes its way to Clare, where a trip to the city center will take place at 6.15 p.m. and an overnight stay is planned.
On Friday, the tour will head to Harrison for a cruise and downtown street festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., then continue to Grayling for more activities.
After spending the night in Grayling, the tour continues to Gaylord, where entry is possible at 10:00 a.m. Then it continues to Wolverine at 1:30 p.m. before ending in Cheboygan with an “End of the Road Celebration” at 4:00 p.m.
The Old US 27 Motor Tour was the brainchild of the late Craig Parrish of Lansing, who passed away in July 2021 after a long battle with cancer.
Before his death, however, he accomplished one of his most important goals: in 2010, he persuaded the state House of Representatives to pass a resolution declaring the Coldwater-Cheboygan stretch a “historic highway.” Since then, several other states have followed his example.
Anyone who wants to take the tour can hop on at any stop. The cost is $20 and participants can start and stop at any point.
