Sentence announced on Thursday for former daycare worker who admitted to sexually molesting children

St. John’s County, Florida. — A former daycare worker found guilty of 16 counts of child sexual abuse related to at least eight children in his care faces a sentencing hearing Thursday in St. Johns County.

Anthony Guadalupe, who worked as a teaching assistant at Chapell School in northern St. Johns County, faces between 35 and 103 years in prison.

During his trial, the prosecutor showed jurors a series of videos showing Guadalupe’s interactions with the children at Chappell School.

They claimed Guadalupe’s actions in the videos showed malicious sexual intent toward the children at the daycare, while his defense denied those claims.

Guadalupe was charged with 22 counts of sexual assault and exposure, and the jury found him guilty on more than half of those counts:

  • 12 cases of lewd and lascivious molestation of a person under 12 years of age

  • 1 count of attempted lewd and lascivious harassment

  • 3 cases of unnatural or lascivious acts

Guadalupe was first arrested in 2022, when he was 18 years old.

In October, Guadalupe signed a guilty plea, but withdrew it in January and opted for a trial.
