The Wonders of Writing: Journalism, Fiction, and More!
5 to 9 August
9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Participants learn two different facets of writing from a journalist and author. Over the course of a week, students learn how to write a short, age-appropriate news article (including the 5 Ws of storytelling). They also learn how to write a short story on a topic that interests them. The course includes creative thinking, brainstorming, ideation, character creation, and all the wonders of different writing styles.

This is a full day camp. Students should bring a lunch.

From being a journalist to current communications director to author, one thing has always remained the same for Courtney: her love of storytelling and words. Courtney Carter DeJesus previously worked as a television news reporter for many years before becoming communications director. Courtney received her bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University’s SI Newhouse School of Public Communications, her master’s degree from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, and a management certificate from Harvard Business School. Courtney, her husband, and their two children are natives of New York but currently live in Rhode Island. Eva The Kid Reporter is her first children’s book.
