Conservative personality takes credit for threatening to ‘destroy’ Republican senator

Conservative radio host Jesse Kelly boasted that he was the one who, according to Senator James Lankford (R-Oklahoma), threatened to “destroy” him because of his support for the now-defeated bipartisan immigration bill.

In a speech on the Senate floor on Wednesday, Lankford said an unnamed “popular commentator” bluntly told him: “If you try to pass a bill in this presidential election year that solves the border crisis, I will do everything I can to destroy you, because I don’t want you to solve the problem before the presidential election.”

The congressman added: “By the way, they have stayed true to their promise and have done everything they can to destroy me over the last few weeks.” The bill came under heavy fire from former President Donald Trump and his allies, who see immigration as key to his re-election in November.

Kelly later admitted Wednesday to threatening Lankford on X (formerly Twitter).

“He may be a eunuch, but I have to say one thing about James Lankford: He has great taste in radio,” Kelly wrote. He added, “Yes, in case you were wondering, he’s talking about me.”

Kelly was once a frequent guest on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show before Carlson was fired from the conservative network in April 2023.

Kelly’s previous controversial comments include, “America needs a dictator” and “The right will put a fascist in charge of the country within the next ten to twenty years.”
