Another beautiful day on Friday; rain coming late Sunday

Friday brings back nice weather as we end the work week and start the weekend. Sunny skies will push the mercury above 30 degrees, with humidity continuing to drop. Early on Saturday, humidity will increase a little as the wind shifts to the south, but rain will stay away under partly cloudy skies. On Sunday, pack your rain gear as a cold front passes through, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be around 32 degrees, feeling like 35 degrees due to the increasing humidity.

Additionally, if you head to area beaches this weekend, be aware of the danger of rip currents as Ernesto passes several hundred miles out to sea on its way to Bermuda. Large swells and wave heights could reach 5-10 feet and more along the Outer Banks and Crystal Coast regions. Even if the water looks calm, watch for rip current flags and heed signage around the beach. If you do get caught in a rip current, stay calm and swim parallel to the current.

As the next week begins, the risk of rip currents will decrease, as will the humidity. The days will become drier again, temperatures will be around 30 degrees and lows around 18 degrees, which seem to be approaching the average.
