Body of missing 15-year-old swimmer recovered in Huntington Beach

The body of a 15-year-old boy who disappeared while swimming in Huntington Beach two weeks ago has been recovered, authorities said.

The teenager’s body was found near Tower 3 on August 5, officials said.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the young swimmer’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” the Huntington Beach Fire Department said.

The teen was last seen alive in the water near lifeguard tower 11 between Twin Dolphin and Huntington Streets on July 28. The teen had gone swimming with another person who later came out of the water, noticed the other teen was missing, and called police.

The circumstances of the teenager’s disappearance are currently unclear, but officials noted that there were strong rip currents in the area earlier in the day.

The search for the teenager, which was called off two days later, stretched from the Bolsa Chica wetland to Newport. According to the Coast Guard, teams searched by air and sea for nearly 20 hours, covering an area of ​​about 270 square kilometers.

His identity was not disclosed.
