“Why don’t you just skip all that and go straight to heroin?”

Megyn Kelly blames his work in Hollywood for part of Matthew Perry’s death.

The host of the “Megyn Kelly Show” pointed out that acting is a gateway to drug use. She added that although her children act in school plays, if it were up to her, their acting careers would begin and end there.

“Child acting is just a gateway into young adult acting, and that was Matthew Perry when he got the role in ‘Friends,'” Kelly said Thursday. “They were all in their early twenties, and honestly, it’s like, you can’t just skip all that and go straight to heroin. If you want to take absolutely reckless risks with your life, just skip all that, go straight to heroin, and then you don’t have to deal with the depression of being rejected over and over again like in Hollywood. I don’t blame Hollywood entirely, but I’ve seen that over and over again.”

The moderator also questioned the use of ketamine to treat people with substance abuse. Kelly noted that while there have been some treatment successes with ketamine, it may not be the best choice for someone who has abused drugs.

“It’s a drug that’s being used more and more,” she said. “It should only be used, if at all, under controlled conditions and with a doctor who can monitor you. It’s been used with some success to treat depression. I know people who have tried it, so I don’t want to disparage ketamine, but for people who are already using it to get out of substance abuse, it seems to be problematic, and it certainly was for Matthew Perry, who died of an overdose.”

Kelly’s comments come shortly after five people were charged in connection with Perry’s accidental death from a ketamine overdose in October 2023. They included a housekeeper and two doctors.

“(Our) investigation uncovered a broad, underground criminal network responsible for distributing large quantities of ketamine to Mr. Perry and others. This network included a live-in assistant, various middlemen, two doctors and a major drug source known as ‘The Ketamine Queen,'” E. Martin Estrada, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, said in a press conference Thursday.

He continued, “We have charged five defendants in this matter. These defendants exploited Mr. Perry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves. They knew what they were doing was wrong, they knew they were putting Mr. Perry in grave danger, but they did it anyway. Ultimately, these defendants were more interested in profiting from Mr. Perry than in caring about his well-being.”

The five defendants include Jasveen Sangha (ketamine queen), Salvador Plasencia (doctor), Mark Chavez (doctor), Kenneth Iwamasa (personal assistant) and Erik Fleming (acquaintance), according to legal documents obtained by TheWrap.
