Seattle radio host holds epic tantrum after Mariners’ recent heavy loss

The Seattle Mariners suffered a devastating 3-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night, which apparently drove Seattle Sports 710 radio host Mike Salk crazy.

On Thursday morning, Salk went on an epic rant after the M’s blew a 2-0 lead in the eighth inning, only to lose to the pathetic Tigers in ten innings.

You can see part of his rant here, where he also talks about being upset that the M’s don’t have a reliable left-hander in their bullpen and that the team used Andres Munoz in the 9th inning instead of the 10th on Wednesday.

Honestly, both of Salk’s points seem valid, don’t they? Yimi Garcia allowed the tying home run to Kerry Carpenter in the eighth inning on Wednesday. Although Garcia was brought in as a great bridge to Munoz in the ninth inning, the M’s didn’t really have a left-hander to fall back on. Gabe Speier has been injured and ineffective this year and is currently playing in Triple-A, while Tayler Saucedo has struggled mightily over the last month.

Additionally, Salk’s point about the ninth inning is also well taken. Using your closer in a tied game in the ninth inning may help you avoid losing the game in the ninth inning, but you have to assume that another reliever can work a clean inning, allowing you to use your closer in the extra frames if you have a lead to defend — or have immediate difficulty overcoming it.

The Mariners will face the Tigers on Thursday at 10:10 a.m. PT.
