KANSAS CITY, Missouri. Preseason announcements are already popping up across the country, and Western Colorado football has earned a spot in one of the first announcements, as Mountaineers linebacker Kendall Lightfoot was named to the second team defensive end on the 2024 D2Football.com Elite 100 Watch List.

The Elite 100 Watch List was selected by the staff of D2Football.com with input from several head coaches as well as experienced professional football scouting expert Josh Buchanan.

Lightfoot finished the 2023 season with 86 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and 3 interceptions. Those numbers helped him earn postseason honors from the D2 Conference Commissioner’s Association (second team defensive), National Football Foundation – Colorado Chapter (first team defensive) and All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference second team defensive.

Lightfoot enters his final season with the Mountaineers this fall and has accumulated 137 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks in the previous four years.

He and the Mountaineers will open the 2024 season with a home game on Sept. 7 against the Mustangs of Midwestern State (Texas) University. The game will be the grand opening of the renovated Mountaineer Bowl at the Rady Family Sports Complex and will be the first night game at the bowl in program history.
