Gotham Knight was heavily criticized upon its original release in October 2022. A game that revolves around the titular team of Bat-Family heroes, Gotham Knight currently has a rating of 67 on Metacritic, with many critics finding the game’s combat, missions, and characters a little lackluster, especially when compared to the previous games in DC’s catalog.
But Gotham Knight wasn’t all bad. Although the main story had some bizarre moments, it was generally quite engaging, and the different playstyles of each hero encouraged fans to experiment and switch between them. Beneath that are some solid fundamentals Gotham Knight‘ more notorious issues, and those foundations could easily pave the way for another DC superhero team-up, this time focusing on Young Justice.

Young Justice is an ideal choice for a superhero team game
First published in June 1998 Young Justice: The Secret No. 1The eponymous superhero team was formed to fill the void left by the Teen Titans, who had outgrown their youthful roles. The team’s debut sees Tim Drake’s Robin, Superboy, and Flash’s sidekick Impulse join forces to rescue new superhero Secret from captivity. This collaboration proved quite successful from the start, and resulted in Young Justice getting its own comic in September 1998.
Like any other superhero team, Young Justice has seen many faces come and go over the past few decades. While Robin, Superboy, and Impulse have remained staples throughout the team’s history, there have been many new additions over the years, including Wonder Girl, Arrowette, Teen Lantern, and even the rejuvenated Li’l Lobo.
If it were a matter of making a superhero team-up video game, a Young Justice title would give its playable heroes plenty of different movesets and powers to choose from. A Young Justice game could also avoid a potential powder keg like a Superman or Wonder Woman game, as it could excuse the weakness of its playable heroes by saying that their age and lack of experience prevent them from reaching their full, comic-accurate potential.

Although it would require a few creative workarounds, a Young Justice game could be a direct sequel to Gotham Knight if DC or Warner Bros. wanted it, both in terms of gameplay and narrative. At the end of Gotham KnightThe Bat Family has publicly declared itself the protectors of Gotham, but with three pseudo-siblings already taking care of the needs, Tim Drake’s Robin could easily switch to a new superhero team. And with Gotham KnightSince Tim Drake is only 16 years old in the ‘Young Justice’ version, he would be the perfect age to be a member of the Young Justice team or even its leader.
In terms of gameplay, a Young Justice game could offer: Gotham Knight‘ formula forward, which gives players four key members of the team to play as. A common criticism of Gotham Knight was that the characters’ fights felt a little too similar, but with the completely different powers of the various Young Justice members, that probably wouldn’t be such a big problem.
