Receives the Community Service Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution

COLUMBUS – At the recent monthly meeting of the Polk County Historical Association, the organization was recognized by the Abraham Kuykendall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Excellence in Community Service Award was presented for the PCHA’s commitment to community activities to preserve the region’s history beginning with the American Revolution. The award was presented by Penny Summey, Chapter Regent of the Kuykendall DAR Chapter.

“The museum is a treasure trove of historical images and artifacts,” said Summey. “The association’s educational programs promote local history and historical research and honor veterans. Their genealogy library offers resources helpful in researching family and area history.”

To receive this recognition, two recommendations are required from the DAR.

Polk County Commissioner Chairman Myron Yoder said the association’s commitment to collecting and preserving local artifacts and archives helps educate the public about the region’s significant historical events, including the contributions of early American patriots.

“The work of the PCHA promotes community pride and ensures that our local heritage remains accessible for future generations,” Yoder said.

Sara Bell, president and CEO of the Polk County Community Foundation, added that the PCCF is proud to support the Polk County Historical Association’s preservation and education efforts since 1998.

“We have been honored to support PCHA with grants to expand its museum and collections, publish books and conduct oral history projects to record community stories and history before they are lost forever,” Bell said.

Chapter Regent Summey presented a special certificate of appreciation and a donation of $500 to the Polk County Historical Association.
