Alan Bowman gets spot on Manning Award watch list

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman has been named to the Manning Award nominee list, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced Thursday.

The Manning Award honors the best quarterback in college football and considers only the candidates’ performance in the postseason when voting. The list of candidates includes a total of 29 student-athletes, including six from the Big 12 Conference, which is the most in the country. Among the 29 quarterbacks listed, Bowman ranks fifth with 3,460 passing yards in 2023.

Bowman, one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the country, is coming off a successful 2023 season in which he led the Cowboys to a Big 12 Championship Game appearance and 10 total wins. He threw for 247.1 yards per game all year, which ranked second in the conference, and scored 17 total touchdowns. Bowman’s average passing yards rose to 285.9 against Big 12 competition, which ultimately led to the seventh-highest single-season passing yards total in school history (3,460).

Overall, Bowman has made 29 starts, thrown for over 8,800 yards and is responsible for over 50 touchdowns throughout his career. Bowman was also named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy watch list earlier this summer.

The award winner will be selected after the postseason by a panel of judges including national media representatives and each of the Mannings.
