Teaneck police and the Bergen County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the murder of a 26-year-old woman Thursday morning, officials said.
Authorities arrived on Hickory Street in the community around 8:25 a.m. and found the woman shot inside a home, the Bergen County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, officials said.
Detectives from the District Attorney’s Major Crimes Unit, Teaneck Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff’s Department and first responders are on scene.
There is no immediate danger to the population, the office said.
“Additional information and details will be available once investigators complete their further investigation, including notifying next of kin,” the office said.
The investigation is being conducted by the Teaneck Police Department and the Bergen County District Attorney’s Office.
Shortly before 10:30 a.m., the public prosecutor’s office posted on X (formerly Twitter) that a murder had occurred and asked the public to avoid the area so that investigations could be carried out.
A Teaneck police sergeant declined comment Thursday morning, saying it was an “ongoing investigation.”
