Shortlist for Readings Young Adult Prize 2024 announced

Readings has announced the shortlist for the Readings Young Adult Book Prize 2024.

The six books on this year’s shortlist are:

  • A way home (Emily Brewin, Midnight Sun)
  • Blind spot (Robyn Dennison, lyrics)
  • Little Bird (Sharon Kernot, lyrics)
  • The spider and her demons (Sydney Khoo, Penguin)
  • We didn’t think about it (Gary Lonesborough, A&U)
  • A curse of salt (Sarah Street, Hodder).

The Readings Prize was first launched in 2014 and aims to “support and promote new and outstanding Australian voices”. Winners in the categories of children’s literature, young adult literature and new Australian fiction will be announced at an event on 22 October. Each winner will receive $5,000. The Gab Williams Prize, selected by the Readings Teen Advisory Board from the young adult literature shortlist, will be announced on 29 October. The winner will receive $1,000.

Last year’s winner of the Readings Young Adult Book Prize was Ann Liang for If you could see the sun (Harlequin Teenager).

As previously reported, the shortlist for the Readings Children’s Book Prize was announced on 13 August. The shortlist for the Readings New Australian Fiction Prize will be announced on 20 August.
