Boskalis reports historically good first half of the year

Boskalis published its 2024 half-year figures this morning and stated that the company had achieved a historically high result after a busy and good first half of the year.

Comment on the results, Peter Berdowski, CEO Boskalissaid: “Financially, the last six months have been the most successful in Boskalis’ long history. We have performed exceptionally well across the board. EBITDA increased by almost 50% to over half a billion euros and net profit increased by 65% ​​to almost 300 million euros.

In the Dredging & Inland Infra business area, our large vessels were well utilized, especially on projects in the Middle and Far East. We are in the final phase of the extensive Manila International Airport project and are gradually focusing on new projects in South East Asia and the Middle East. Closer to home, we have been working a lot in the Netherlands on the reinforcement of the Markermeer dikes north of Amsterdam and on the Zuidas public transport hub in Amsterdam.

Sales rose by 5 percent year-on-year to 2.07 billion euros (H1 2023: 1.97 billion euros), the company said.

Dredging and inland infrastructure

In the Dredging & Inland Infrastructure business area, sales remained stable with slightly higher EBITDA compared to the same period last year. The hopper fleet was well utilized on large projects in Asia and the Middle East, and the cutter suction dredgers were fully utilized in the Middle East.

The most important regions in terms of revenue contribution were Asia/Australia and Europe, with significant projects in the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, Denmark and the Netherlands.

In the first half of the year, Boskalis completed work on the construction of the the new international airport of Manila and the project will be handed over to the customer shortly.

In Singapore Much work has again been done in the area of ​​the innovative polder (Pulau Tekong) and the port expansion (Tuas Terminal 2), while energy transition projects (wind and gas) are underway in Taiwan and Australia.

In Europe, dredging work is being carried out to dig for the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel (between Denmark and Germany) was completed in the first half of the year.

In the Netherlands, Boskalis has been involved in numerous projects, including the multi-year project to strengthen the dikes of the Markermeer north of Amsterdam, the Zuidasdok OVT Project to expand the existing public transport hub in Amsterdam, and preparatory work is in full swing for the A2 Het Vonderen-Kerensheide motorway expansion project.
