Netflix plans sequel to “A Different World”

It looks like Whitley and Dwayne Wayne’s youngest daughter will attend Hillman College.

Of course we know the couple from The Cosby Show spin off Another worldwhich aired on NBC for six seasons (from 1987 to 1993). Thirty-one years later, a single-camera sequel is reportedly in the works at Netflix, focusing on Whitley and Dwayne’s college-bound daughter.

A sequel to Another world has been in various stages of development over the years, but has been interrupted by the legal problems that The Cosby Show Star and Creator Bill Cosby from 2015 to 2021.

The series originally focused on Lisa Bonet as Huxtable’s second daughter The Cosby ShowJasmine Guy as Whitley was promoted to one of the main roles in season two of Another world after Bonet’s premature exit. Finally, Kadeem Hardison took over as Dwayne Wayne and eventually married Guys Whitley.

Also featured in the second season of Another world (and beyond) were Dawnn Lewis, Darryl M. Bell, Sinbad, Charnele Brown, Cree Summer and Glynn Turman. The first season featured Marisa Tomei, who won an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress category four years after leaving the sitcom for My cousin Winnie in 1992.

The planned half-hour single-cam comedy sequel to Another world comes from author and executive producer Felicia Pride (Bel-Air, Grey’s Anatomy) and executive producers Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Bythewood.

The results so far in the area of ​​sitcom sequels on streaming services have been mixed. Fuller housea spin-off from Full houseaired on Netflix for five seasons (from 2016 to 2020).
