The Lions’ game against the Giants was a boring warm-up game, like most of these games today.
The New York Giants won 14-3. I watched a bit of the third and fourth quarters. There was absolutely no excitement for me. I think it has something to do with the fact that neither team scored zero points. The starters on both teams didn’t play, which is why preseason preparation is such a joke. The Lions had the advantage of seeing Hendon Hooker briefly before he left the field with a concussion in the third quarter.
The first game is done and now there are only two preseason games left. From now on, it’s all about staying healthy and opening the regular season with a healthy football team. The Lions will travel to Kansas City on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. I think it will be another boring football game.
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams won gold at the 2024 Olympics. I watched the second half of the women’s game against France. I believe the USA was favorites over France by about 15 points and still won by just a single point, 67-66. The women’s victory meant their eighth consecutive gold medal. And Diana Taurasi won her sixth gold medal! I say that’s an impressive achievement!
The men defeated France to win their fifth consecutive gold medal with a score of 98-87. The star of the gold medal game was Stephen Curry, who absolutely convinced with the three-point line. Both basketball teams managed to win gold in 2024 as expected. The Olympics are over and if you are interested in the Olympics, I hope you enjoyed the three weeks of coverage.
The AP poll of the top 25 college football players has been released. The number one team is the Georgia Bulldogs. I have to say I can’t argue with the selection as I believe the Bulldogs are the most talented team in college football. However, I will tell you that the first game on August 31st against the Clemson Tigers will be a tough test. I am really looking forward to watching this football game.
The number two team is the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes will not face competition until mid-October when they play Oregon on October 12th. Expectations in Columbus, Ohio are sky high for this football team. The Buckeyes are in good shape and looking to end a three-game losing streak against the Michigan Wolverines.
The Oregon Ducks are the third best team in the polls. The Ducks have to play both Michigan and Ohio State in the Big Ten this season. I have to ask how important the Ohio State-Oregon football game is. I can tell you that the winner will have the upper hand in the race for the College Football Playoff, and that will be huge.
The Texas Longhorns are ranked fourth in the polls, and the highly anticipated Week 2 game in Ann Arbor, Michigan will be a college football game not to be missed. I think this game is a great one, and the loser will suffer a significant setback in the race to make the playoffs.
The Alabama Crimson Tide complete the top five without Nick Saban as coach in 2024. New man Kalen DeBoer, who comes from the Washington Huskies, has big shoes to fill at “Bama” after the departure of coach Saban.
The next five teams ranked in the top 10 in the polls are as follows: Ole Miss at No. 6, Notre Dame at No. 7, Penn State at No. 8, Michigan at No. 9 and Florida State at No. 10.
