Carmichael added to ACC preseason watch list

Cal defender Kevin Carmichael scored a career-high three goals and seven points in 2023 and was selected by Nashville FC in the MLS SuperDraft.


California Men’s Soccer Team Kevin Carmichael was added to the ACC Preseason Watch List, the conference announced Wednesday.

The talented center back is coming off a 2023 season in which he earned All-Pac-12 First Team status and set career highs with three goals and seven points in 18 appearances for the Golden Bears. One of his goals was the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win at Washington and he also scored in a 1-1 tie with No. 18 Wake Forest. Carmichael is a reliable member of the back line and ranked second in minutes played for Cal (1,548).

In December, the Thousand Oaks product was selected by Nashville FC in the MLS SuperDraft, along with his co-captain Wyatt MeyerBoth Bears will finish their college careers this fall before moving to the MLS.

Also announced Wednesday, Cal finished 13th in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Carmichael and the 2024 Bears will finish the preseason at 5 p.m. PT on Friday in San Francisco. The regular season begins at 4:30 p.m. PT on August 22 when they host Denver at Edwards Stadium.
