Lake Mary All-Stars win first game of Little League World Series

WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania. – One victory is achieved. Five more to go.

The Lake Mary All-Stars won their first game of the 2024 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

As one of only 20 teams from around the world to make the World Series, it was a big moment for the All-Stars, who faced Midwest champion Sioux Falls in the first round on Wednesday night.

The tournament is a double knockout tournament, meaning teams have to lose twice before they’re out, but that wasn’t the case for Lake Mary the first time they met.

Lake Mary trailed Sioux Falls 1-0 after the first four innings of the game.

However, the team had all bases loaded at the start of the fifth inning, and then Liam Morrisey delivered, scoring Landon Bono with a single through the middle and tying the game at 1-1.

But it didn’t last long. The bases were full for the next batter, Luis Calo, and he hit a sacrifice fly to right – deep enough for Garrett Rohozen to catch it and score the decisive run.

In the end, Lake Mary triumphed with a score of 2:1.

Lake Mary All-Stars starting pitcher JJ Feliciano was unflappable on the mound, allowing just one run on an infield single. After hitting the Little League’s 85-pitch limit, Calo came in as a reliever to take Sioux Falls’ last batter out of the game.

Lake Mary moves into the winners bracket and will play its next game on Friday.

Before Wednesday’s game, News 6’s Justin Warmoth joined siblings and fans of the Lake Mary team for a traditional jump down the hill overlooking the field at Lamade Stadium. To watch, click here.
