Chennedy Carter rants against ESPN list that ranks her behind Caitlin Clark

Chennedy Carter had something to say on Wednesday.

The Chicago Sky guard spoke in an Instagram story about ESPN’s ranking of the WNBA’s 25 best players, which ranks her 24th in the league. Carter expressed her clear disagreement with her placement on the list.

“How can I play fewer minutes on average and still have the best stats in the league? But I’m at the BOTTOM, that doesn’t add up, the hate is so obvious,” she wrote. “Also the F/G (field goal) percentage is good.”

Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson topped the list, with the New York Liberty’s Breanna Stewart coming in second. Meanwhile, Indiana Fever rookie phenom Caitlin Clark, who Carter aggressively tackled in an early June game and whom he has criticized online since then, came in 15th.

Carter is correct in saying that she averages fewer minutes per game than many of her peers above her on the list, including Clark. Carter has averaged just 25.1 minutes per game, which is the fewest points per game of any player among the WNBA’s top 33 players this year and less than any other player above her on the list.

Carter has averaged just 25.1 points per game this year, while he has averaged 17.2 points per game – 0.1 points more than Clark. Carter’s 51.8% shooting percentage is also the sixth-best of any player on ESPN’s list.

Only Wilson, Dearica Hamby and Nneka Ogwumike have a higher score per game among the top 12 players.

But Carter has also put herself at the center of controversy since she sent Clark to the ground with her infamous hip check on June 1 as the rookie star fell to the floor. Carter then refused to comment on the incident at the postgame press conference, but used her social media to repeatedly harshly criticize Clark.

Carter liked posts saying the Fever had no one to defend Clark on the court and suggesting Clark fell to the court when Carter pushed her. There were several other posts criticizing those who may have turned on the league for the first time this season and spoken out about the incident. Another post addressed the Clark issue.

“The number of troll notifications is exploding. I love it,” Carter wrote on X.

The Carter incident even went so far as to impair Clark’s basketball skills beyond the three-point shot.

“That’s what she has to offer besides three-point shooting, man,” Carter wrote in response to a post about her postgame press conference on Threads.
