Kauai County declares August 14 as “Tatiana Weston-Webb Day”: Kauai Now

Olympic surfer Tatiana Weston Webb was honored by Kauaʻi County during a ceremony at the Lihue Civic Center Wednesday morning when Mayor Derek SK Kawakami declared August 14 as Tatiana Weston Webb Day.

Weston-Webb, 28, a longtime Kauaʻi resident, recently won silver at the Paris Olympics, representing her native Brazil.

“Of course I represent Brazil on the championship tour, but I also represent Kauaʻi,” Weston Webb said in a speech during the ceremony. “I couldn’t be prouder to call Kauaʻi my home.”

In addition to Kawakami, several other politicians attended the event, including Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke, Senate President Ron Kouchi, Assemblyman Dee Morikawa, Councilwoman Felicia Cowden and Assemblyman Luke Evslin.

“To Tatiana, you make Kaua’i so proud and everyone here shares this wave of emotion,” Kawakami said. “It is a tremendous honor to celebrate you and your ‘Ohana and recognize this tremendous accomplishment. Thank you for sharing this moment with all of us. You are an inspiration to our young children and our community.”
