Devin Haney appears to be resisting plans to take a “two-year break” from boxing to hint at a return after the fight with Ryan Garcia

Devin Haney has hinted at a possible fight in Saudi Arabia despite considering a break from boxing.

The American star has not fought since his canceled fight against Ryan Garcia, in which he lost on points after being knocked down three times.

However, the result was later changed after “King Ry” was banned from the sport for one year following their rematch after failing two doping tests.

With a rematch against Garcia out of the question, Haney indicated that he would not return to the sport until 2026.

However, he hinted that he could be back soon, tweeting: “The game is not the same. It’s time for me to come back. I gave you all three months.”

In the biggest preview yet of his potential comeback, Haney interacted with Saudi boxing boss Turki Alalshikh, a sign that the two could work together on his next appearance.

Alalshikh posted on social media: “Deliver the job champ. Waiting for you in Riyadh.”

To which Haney replied, “I would say the comeback, but I never left. See you soon, bro.”

Haney relinquished his WBC super lightweight title, although he had retained it after his clash with Garcia, as the latter failed to make the weight and therefore could not win the title.

However, he will remain a champion “on hiatus” and could try to return and regain his belt in this weight class.

“The Dream” was supposed to face Sandor Martin, but fans were not impressed with the fight and there was not much interest.

Haney himself expressed his displeasure that only Top Rank had applied for the fight and received the rights to hold it with a lower financial bid.

His main goal is likely to be a rematch against Garcia, whose return is planned for 2025.

The American could try to get back on track with an interim fight before continuing the fight.

And he stressed previously that this would certainly be his main goal if an offer was on the table.

Ryan Garcia claims he was “high as f***” during his victory over Devin Haney, but denies using steroids for the fight.

He told the MMA Hour: “If everything goes well and the doping tests have no impact, I would like to have my next fight against Ryan Garcia.

“But he has to serve his suspension and we have to sort everything out. Of course I want to get mine back with blood. I’m such a fighter.

“The next fight (with Ryan Garcia) will be on my terms. We caught the guy cheating. So wherever the fight takes place, it will be on my terms.”

“I don’t fight in weight classes anymore. I fight in any weight class I want. I love belts. Belts put you in the history books forever, but I’ve already done that.”

“For the shit he did, I want him to pay for the shit he did in the ring and out of the ring.”
