Good Trout Fishing at Bluewater Lake – The Tri-City Record

Trout fishing in the San Juan River was successful using black beadhead mosquito flies.

Abiquiu Lake: Walleye fishing was fair using jig heads with worms. For current lake conditions and closures, call the Abiquiu Lake main office at (505) 685-4371.

Animas River: Discharge below Aztec was 584 cubic feet per second Monday morning.

Albuquerque Area Runoff: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Bluewater Lake: Trout fishing was fair to good using lures, worms and corn.

Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Cochiti Lake: Smallmouth bass fishing was fair using Firetiger crankbaits. White bass fishing was fair to good using live minnows. Northern pike fishing was fair to good using Firetiger crankbaits, white Flicker Shad lures, white Rapala X-Rap lures, curly tail grubs, white lipless crankbaits, and spoons. Bluegill fishing was fair using minnows and curly tail grubs. Catfish fishing was slow.

El Vado Lake: Closed for dam construction. For more information, visit the El Vado Lake State Park website or call (575) 588-7247.

Fenton Lake: Trout fishing has been slow. For current information on lake conditions and possible closures, visit the park website or call the park office at (575) 829-3630.

Grants Riverwalk Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Heron Lake: Carp fishing was fair to good using artificial corn.

Jemez Waters: Current velocity near Jemez was 14 cubic feet per second Monday morning. Trout fishing on the Rio Cebolla near Fenton Lake was good using corn and worms. Trout fishing in the Valles Caldera streams was fair to good using hopper flies. Trout fishing in the East Fork was very good using spinners, Copper John flies, Pheasant-Tail Nymph flies, Prince Nymph flies and Caddis Stimulator dry flies.

Laguna del Campo: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lagunitas Lakes: Trout fishing was good using flies, spinners, worms and PowerBait.

Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Liam Knight Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.

McGaffey Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Navajo Lake: Fishing for sockeye salmon was fair to good using spinner baits with corn bait in 70 feet. Fishing for northern pike was fair to good using chartreuse swimbaits. Fishing for bass was fair to good using crankbaits and 3-inch watermelons with red plastic worms.

Rio Chama: Flow below El Vado Lake was 492 cfs Monday morning; flow below Abiquiu Lake was 390 cfs Tuesday morning. Please note that from the river bridge on US Highway 84 at Abiquiu, 7 miles upstream to the base of Abiquiu Dam are special trout waters where only two trout may be taken.

Rio Grande: Catfish fishing was good with shrimp.

Riverside Park Pond (Aztec Pond #1): We had no reports from anglers this week.

San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

San Juan River: Current velocity near Archuleta was 942 cubic feet per second Tuesday morning. Trout fishing in the quality waters was good using beadhead flies and black midges.

Seven Springs Kids’ Pond: Trout fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs with glitter. Rio Grande chubs are native to the Jemez River basin and are found in Seven Springs Kids’ Ponds. If you catch a Rio Grande chub, please do not leave it on the bank, but release it back into the water where it can survive as part of our native ecosystem.

Tiger Park Reservoir: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Tingley Beach: Catfish fishing was fair using dough baits. Bass fishing was fair to good using Whopper Plopper baits in a shad pattern.

Trout lakes: We have not received any reports from anglers this week.
