Lincoln National Life Insurance Company reports data breach but provides little information | Console and Associates, PC

On August 12, 2024, Lincoln National Life Insurance Company (“Lincoln Financial”) reported a data breach to the Massachusetts Attorney General after determining that personal information in the company’s possession had been exposed to unauthorized access. In this report, Lincoln states that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ confidential information, including their names and social security numbers. After completing the investigation, Lincoln began sending data breach notification letters to all individuals whose data was affected by the recent data breach.

What caused the Lincoln Financial Group data breach?

The data breach at Lincoln National Life Insurance Company was only recently disclosed and more information is expected in the near future. Lincoln’s filing with the Massachusetts Attorney General contains some information about what led to the data breach, but the letter lacks details about what led to the incident.
