Christian and Country music legend Carrie Underwood has chart hits, platinum albums and dozens of awards under her belt. But this small-town artist who has found incredible fame hasn’t let her success deter her from her roots. Underwood recently joined the worship team at a Tennessee church to sing “Goodness of God.”

“I gave my life and now I surrender / I give it all to you, oh Lord / Your goodness is running after me, it’s running after me,” sang Underwood.

Underwood attended a small church in Oklahoma as a child and soon began singing there regularly. Her faith has been a constant throughout her successful country music career.

In 2021, she released her first Christian album, “My Savior.” The project was a collection of the artist’s favorite hymns, including “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” “Just As I Am,” “Because He Lives,” and “Victory In Jesus.”

It’s fitting that the music star went to her home church, Rolling Hills Community Church, which has several locations in Tennessee, to lead the service. People find that Rolling Hills offers “inspired worship, genuine community and passionate counseling.” After more than 20 years of counseling, the church sees that “God is very much at work.”

Backed by a small choir, Underwood sang “Goodness of God” by Jenn Johnson and Bethel Music. The song was originally produced in 2019 and re-recorded by various artists, including CeCe WinansShane & Shane and Rhett Walker.

I love your voice
You led me through the fire
In the darkest night you are closer than anyone else
I know you as a father
I know you as a friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God, yes

Because you have been faithful to me all my life
And all my life you were so, so good
With every breath I can
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

Churchgoers were surprised by Underwood’s appearance at church on Sunday morning. Some took a video and everyone prayed along with Underwood.

“Carrie led worship this morning at Rollinghillscommunity church,” one post said. “It was a sweet surprise and I was so blessed. It’s incredible to hear her sing about God because her passion is very palpable. I love this song by @bethelmusic!”
