SINGAPORE – Double-digit growth in aerospace MRO and aerostructures boosted ST Engineering’s first-half revenue in its commercial aviation portfolio by 20% compared to the same period last year, as the segment won new contracts worth S$2.1 billion (US$1.6 billion) in the first six months of the year.

In the second quarter alone, new contracts worth 1.3 billion Singapore dollars were signed, including a heavy maintenance contract for the Airbus A320 for an unnamed Asian airline and a three-year extension of the Leap 1B fast-offloading agreement with Safran Aircraft Engines.

The strongest demand was seen in the MRO segment, where revenues rose 32% year-on-year from S$868 million to S$1.1 billion. The Aerostructures segment recorded a 20% increase year-on-year to S$1.1 billion, and Aviation Asset Management also increased by 17% to S$2.3 billion.

According to ST Engineering, commercial aviation profit before tax increased 7% year-on-year, but this was offset by a lower contribution due to significantly lower aircraft sales, project timing and sales mix.

Elbe Flugzeugwerke – the joint venture between ST Engineering and Airbus – says it has received approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency as a Continuous Airworthiness Monitoring Organisation (CAMO). This authorises the company to provide airworthiness management and technical services for all passenger and cargo aircraft worldwide.

ST Engineering claims to be the only cargo aircraft conversion provider in the world to hold three other key aviation technical approvals in addition to CAMO approval – Part 145 approval, Design Organization approval and Production Organization approval. This enables the company to offer complete turnkey solutions that include design, conversion maintenance, aviation supply chain management and CAMO support.
