Lubbock County unveils Maines Brothers Band street sign for the first time

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – On Wednesday afternoon, Lubbock County honored some of the men who opened up Lubbock Sound.

Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish, along with other guests, unveiled “The Maines Brothers Band Highway” sign in the gazebo of the Lubbock County Courthouse.

Last year, the Texas State Legislature named a section of Farm to Market Road 40 as “The Maine Brothers Band Highway.”

The Maines Brothers Band has been making music that has delighted music fans in West Texas for more than 50 years.

The Maines Brothers Band is part of a musical family tradition that began when their father and uncles introduced Lloyd, Steve, Kenny and Donnie as “The Little Maines Boys” on many of the Maines Brothers’ original country western shows in the 1950s.

The Little Maines Boys became the Maines Brothers Band, signed a recording contract with Mercury Records in 1983, toured the United States with elite country music artists, scored a Top 25 hit on the Billboard charts with “Everybody Needs Love on a Saturday Night,” entertained thousands of fans over the years, gained thousands of new fans with their incredible live performances, and were inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame in 1993.

The highway signs will be placed on FM 40 between CR 3300 and CR 3800 in Acuff, the Maines family’s hometown.
