Emmerdale fans are speculating that Robert Sugden, played by Ryan Hawley, could make a comeback as his half-brother turns up in the village. Robert, who was previously married to Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), is currently serving a prison sentence for manslaughter.

He attacked Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie) in retaliation for the rape of his sister Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins). The altercation ended with Lee’s death.

Robert and Aaron tried to escape from the police, but Robert eventually turned himself in, leading to their separation.

Recently, Aaron communicated with a mysterious person via a dating app, who on Tuesday (August 7) turned out to be John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).

Victoria is in for a surprise when she discovers her connection to John. Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) awkwardly reveals that John may be her half-brother and the son of her late father Jack Sugden, making him and Robert half-siblings.

The Sugden family, a fixture in the Dales, has seen a decline in membership over the years; only Victoria and Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) still live in the village.

However, given John’s arrival, some viewers are predicting that Robert may also be planning a surprise return to Emmerdale, reports the Manchester Evening News.

One Emmerdale viewer asked on social media: “What do you think of John Sugden? I quite like him but I’m curious to see how Aaron will react when he finds out his date is actually Victoria’s brother John Sugden. Remember Robert was a Sugden too. #Emmerdale.”

Another fan commented, “This was all supposed to set up Robert’s return. #Robron,” and another added, “Oh my god such chaos!! Hopefully this was supposed to lead to Robert’s return or you better start counting your days.”

“When John said, ‘I wonder when you’re going to shut up,’ it sounded like Robert!” noted another.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
