Dolby Atmos soundbar systems have become incredibly popular in recent years, and for good reason. The combination of a soundbar, wireless surround speakers, and wireless subwoofer can, at its best, come pretty close to the sound experience of an AV receiver and 11 individual speakers in your living room—but with significantly less clutter and complications.
The best Dolby Atmos soundbar system is the new Samsung Q990D, but it still costs well over £1,000 (the best price I’ve found is £1,175 on Amazon).
The previous model, the Q990C, is not quite as good, but not far off and is currently available at a record price. £739 at AO.
A discount this big is hard to ignore, and I would buy it even if the Q990D is ultimately better.
Before you rush into buying, there’s a catch: you have to be an AO Five Star member to get this price. If you’re already a member, you’re fine, but non-members will have to pay £40 to join.
Normally that would stop me recommending a deal, but in this case the total cost of joining and then paying for the Q990C (£779) is still a lot lower than the cheapest price you’ll find the soundbar for elsewhere.
Of course, if you really, Really If you don’t want to take out a membership, the standard non-member price of £809 is still lower than the previous price of the Q990C. You can also buy it at this price from Amazon if you prefer – click here to buy the Samsung Q990C for £809 from Amazon.
The Samsung Q990C soundbar package received a respectable four-star rating when we recently put it through its paces in our test room. We were impressed by its scale, height and weight. Setting up the system is effortless and takes no time at all, which is always appreciated.
The main soundbar features a center, left and right channel beneath the front grille, consisting of 110 x 52mm racetrack drivers and a 52mm tweeter. There are side and wide-firing full-range drivers at each end of the bar. There are also two 50mm top-firing full-range drivers, one at each end of the bar, which help create the effect of Dolby Atmos audio.
The Q990C’s two surround speakers each house three drivers, with one driver firing forward, one to the side and one upward. They combine well with the main soundbar to fill the sound field and create an impressive three-dimensional sound experience. The subwoofer provides weighty, extended bass and integrates well with the rest of the system, creating a pleasant, harmonious sound.
If you’re looking for full, rich and relaxing sound to enhance your home theater experience, then this deal on the Samsung Q990C is worth a look!
