Georgia Football names four players to ESPN’s preseason All-American list

The Georgia Bulldogs have named three players to ESPN’s All-American list ahead of the 2024 college football season.

The Georgia Bulldogs once again have a roster full of future NFL talent and that’s a big reason why they’re considered favorites to win the national title this season. The return of players like quarterback Carson Beck, safety Malaki Starks and defensive lineman Mykel Williams puts Georgia in a great position for a successful season. These projections also align with a major media outlet’s preseason All-American list.

ESPN released its list of first-team All-Americans before the season began and the Bulldogs have three players on the list, four if you count their second-team nods. Beck, Starks and offensive lineman Tate Ratledge were all named to the first team, while Williams was among the second-team nominees. Here’s what the network had to say about each of the first-team nominees.

Carson Beck, QB

“In his first season as a starter a year ago, Beck made it look almost too easy at times, leading the SEC and ranking third nationally with 3,941 passing yards. Several of his top playmakers have moved on, including tight end Brock Bowers, but Beck is at his best when he’s distributing the ball and finding open targets. He’s completed 72.4% of his passes and has been intercepted just six times on 417 pass attempts.”

Tate Ratledge, OG

“Georgia might have its best offensive line from Kirby Smart’s tenure, and Ratledge is one of the leaders of that unit after missing a chance to qualify for the NFL Draft. The 6-6, 310-pound senior is a two-year starter at right guard. He made his first start three years ago, but he broke his foot in the first game against Clemson and missed the rest of the season. Ratledge was selected to the AP All-America second team a year ago and returns as one of the best pass-blocking guards in the country.”

Malaki Starks, S

“Starks could become Georgia’s first two-time All-America safety in nearly 40 years. He has been a rock for the Bulldogs on defense since his freshman season, excelling at both run stopping and coverage. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior was fourth on Georgia’s team last season with 52 total tackles and three interceptions. When the Bulldogs needed a big play, Starks was there to make it.”

ESPN’s Jordan Reid also recently predicted that Georgia will break its own NFL Draft record and select 16 players in the 2025 NFL Draft, with three of them being selected in the first round. Expectations are high for the Bulldogs’ roster this season, and it’s easy to see why when you look at the roster and consider the additions they made through the transfer portal this offseason.
