Atlanta, Aug. 14, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — A Porsche 911 driven by Romain Dumas became the tallest earthbound vehicle ever when it reached the summit of Ojos del Salado – the world’s highest volcano.

The story behind that moment has never been fully told; the culmination of over four years of effort, three attempts with two cars – all with the goal of setting an absolute record.

Every moment of their adventure, from assembling the first extraordinary car to the extreme acclimatization, the dreams, the heartache and the physical and emotional rigors, was recorded to enable the creation of a film that offers unprecedented insight into the literal highs and brutal lows of what is considered to be one of the hardest records to beat.

The documentary – named after the Porsche 911 that set the record – is the work of independent filmmakers TangentVector and was supported by Porsche.

“For over four years, we meticulously chronicled every part of this incredible human adventure and technological achievement,” said JF Musial, CEO of TangentVector. “Many have tried to break this record, but very, very few have succeeded… and it became clear that there were good reasons why it remained unbeaten for 16 years. This film captured the raw reality of what it took – told by those who were there and the team that supported them.”

The story picks up the adventure in its earliest days, when the very first car is built in a matter of weeks, and is narrated by videographer Niko Myyrä, who was present at all three record attempts. Contributions to the film come from key members of the team, including its leader and driver Romain Dumas and Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG.

The premiere of the 50-minute documentary will take place during Monterey Car Week – on Friday, August 16th at the Golden State Theater in downtown Monterey. A limited number of tickets for the premiere are available here. The record-breaking car will make a special appearance and each visitor will receive a special souvenir to commemorate the occasion.
