A 24-year-old man in the United States has been charged with attempted capital crime after attempting to kill his four-month-old baby by feeding him gasoline. According to NewsweekEdgar James Bridgemon of Texas confessed to administering the poison to end the child’s life. He was arrested Saturday on attempted capital murder charges and later tried and jailed. In addition to the attempted murder charge, he was also charged with evading arrest, cops said.

When police responded to a 911 call, they learned that Bridgemon had allegedly given the baby gasoline to drink. While officers assessed the situation, the 24-year-old attempted to flee on foot. However, after a brief chase, Bridgemon was arrested by police and taken into custody, where he later confessed to the crime.

The four-month-old child, however, was immediately taken to Paris Regional Medical Center, where medical staff began first aid. However, due to the severity of the poisoning, the child was later transferred to another hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for further treatment.

Bridgemon is now charged with attempted capital crime, which is classified as a first-degree felony in Texas. If convicted, the 24-year-old could face a life sentence.

In addition, Bridgemon has also been charged with evading arrest, further complicating his legal situation. He is currently being held in the Lamar County Jail with bail set at $255,000. The case remains under investigation by local authorities.

In another case, a mother was recently arrested for allegedly putting her newborn baby in a garbage bag and throwing it into a dumpster. Everilda Cux-Ajtzalam told police she did it because she feared her boyfriend would break up with her if she didn’t. Court records reviewed by Law&Crime show she was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with the crime of abandoning a child without the intention of returning him.

Houston Fire Department paramedics took the baby to Texas Children’s Hospital, where authorities said the child was stable and in good condition. After treatment, the baby was placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
