IMAX announces “Harry Potter” marathon week for October 13

IMAX announces “Harry Potter” marathon week for October 13

“Harry Potter” is coming back to cinemas: The cinema chain IMAX promises to show the entire film series from start to finish in the week of October 13th.

In the ten-year period between 2001 and 2011, eight “Harry Potter” films were released, and all eight are now returning to theaters thanks to an IMAX initiative.

Why now? The cinema chain for special formats is showing the “Harry Potter” series with a view to “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” in November.

Although Fantastic Beasts is not part of the original book or film series, it is still set in the same fictional universe.

The film is set in the 1920s, not in Great Britain, but in the USA. Eddie Redmayne plays Newt Scamander, himself a graduate of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and at the center of a dispute between magic users and their opponents.

After a five-year break, this is the first full-length return to the magical world of JK Rowling; the British author wrote both the companion book and the screenplay on which the film is based in 2001.

Until the release of “Fantastic Beasts” – sequels to which are planned for 2018 and 2020 – there will be an IMAX preview for each of the eight previous “Harry Potter” films.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001), The Chamber of Secrets (2002), The Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), The Goblet of Fire (2005), The Order of the Phoenix (2007), The Half-Blood Prince (2009) and both parts of The Deathly Hallows (2010, 2011) are scheduled to be shown along with an alleged IMAX-exclusive preview of Fantastic Beasts.

While the “Harry Potter” films are shown in IMAX 2D, 3D and 4K versions of “Fantastic Beasts” are in preparation and are scheduled to hit theaters on November 18.

IMAX offers admission in the form of individual tickets, a one-day pass with unlimited access, a four-show pass for the entire week, and an unlimited festival pass for the entire event.

The first two “Harry Potter” films will be shown for the first time in an IMAX cinema, kicking off on October 13 with a worldwide fan event with booked guests of honour in London and LA

In the same week, three films with an “R” age rating will be released in cinemas: the crime thriller “The Accountant” with Anna Kendrick and Ben Affleck, the comedy show “Kevin Hart: What Now?” and a Mexican border drama directed by Jonas Cuaron, co-author of the multiple Oscar-winning film “Gravity” and son of the director.

The same week also sees the release of the Kate Beckinsale action film “Underworld: Blood Wars” and the teen superhero film “Max Steel”.
