1 injured, 1 arrested after shooting in Paducah – KBSI Fox 23 Cape Girardeau News

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – A Paducah man is charged with assault and reckless endangerment after a shooting in Paducah left one person injured.

Tayjaun A. Kelly, 23, of River Oaks Boulevard is charged with first-degree assault and three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.

Paducah Police responded to a large outdoor gathering in the 900 block of Boyd Street at 2:45 a.m. on August 11 after a single gunshot was reported.

As they moved through the crowd, officers heard more gunshots nearby. Officers ran in the direction of the gunshots to find the shooter and any injured people.

While examining the gunshot wounds, they learned that a person with gunshot wounds had been taken to a local hospital.

Detectives responded and began an investigation. They identified the shooter as Tayjaun Kelly and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

They say Kelly was near a large crowd when he started shooting, hitting one person.

Detectives found Kelly at a home in the 800 block of River Oaks Boulevard on Monday evening and arrested him.

“I am incredibly proud of our officers for quickly gaining control of a chaotic scene. Their bravery exemplifies the best of law enforcement. I also want to thank our detectives for quickly identifying and arresting the shooter. Our officers’ commitment to keeping our community safe is deeply appreciated,” said Paducah Police Chief Brian Laird.

Kelly was taken to the McCracken County Jail.
