Miriam Margolyes has revealed exactly how much she earned for her role as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter series.

The popular actress admitted that she was not impressed with the fees she received for the films: “I never made millions with Harry Potter. I think the three or four main actors did it and they deserve it, but my character doesn’t.”

She added: “I’ve only been in two of them and only got £60,000 for being Professor Sprout, but I don’t grumble… now. I grumbled then, but it made me very famous.”

Margolyes has previously spoken about how taking on the role changed her life. She told the Daily Mail: “Fans follow me on the street. People want to take photos of them – selfies, they call them – standing next to Professor Sprout. Even now I have to get photos printed to sign and send to my Harry Potter followers. But if I’m honest, which I have to be, I fell asleep during the premieres of both films.”

Margolyes recently paid tribute to her Harry Potter co-star Robbie Coltrane, who played the famous role of Hagrid in the film series.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4, Margolyes said: “I’m just angry that he’s died, it’s such a shame. He was extraordinary and I’m really sad. He’s an absolutely unique personality and powerful and towers over Scotland. I really loved him and I’m so sad about it.”

Coltrane died on October 14 at Forth Valley Royal Hospital after being ill for some time. The official cause of death was later given as multiple organ failure complicated by sepsis, a lower respiratory infection and heart block. He was also known to suffer from diabetes.
