Juan Soto of the Yankees hits three home runs for the first time in epic fashion

It’s safe to say the New York Yankees found a gem this past offseason. Right fielder Juan Soto has been everything the team hoped for this year and has a good chance of making a fortune this winter with a long-term contract.

Soto hit three home runs against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, his first game with three home runsabout the MLB.

The 25-year-old already has 33 home runs, 88 RBIs and an OPS of 1.041 in his first season with New York. He and his equally powerful teammate Aaron Judge could make history together, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

“Juan Soto hit three home runs tonight, which brings his total to 33 home runs this season,” Nightengale said. “He and Aaron Judge (42 home runs) could become the first Yankee teammates to hit 40 or more home runs in a season since Roger Maris (61) and Mickey Mantle (54) in 1961.”

Soto’s three home runs gave the Yankees all four runs on Tuesday, a day after the White Sox embarrassed them 11-2. Two straight losses to Chicago, the worst team in the league, would not have been a good look for a New York team with championship aspirations.

Does Soto give the Yankees a real chance to win it all?

Soto and Judge are the only two New York outfielders who have avoided a slump in recent months. Judge got off to a slow start in April but is now back on a historic run.

While Giancarlo Stanton’s return to the lineup gives the team another hitter, Soto will continue to be under pressure to perform, especially with new addition Jazz Chisholm potentially needing UCL surgery. Supporting players like Anthony Volpe, Gleyber Torres and Alex Verdugo have had ups and downs at bat this year.

What is certain, however, is that Soto deserves one of the largest contracts in baseball history as the offseason begins. Will the Yankees pay?
