Machine Gun Kelly’s first pitch at the Guardians-Cubs game ended up in the stands

Machine Gun Kelly’s first pitch at the Guardians-Cubs game ended up in the stands

It’s usually not a good idea to throw a memorable first pitch in an MLB game.

Unless you’re Simone Biles doing a backflip before throwing the ball or a Chicago nun doing a mid-somersault, most viral ceremonial first throws end with the celebrity on the mound looking pretty ridiculous. (Just ask 50 Cent or the poor cameraman who got hit in a sensitive spot.)

Machine Gun Kelly apparently intended to join that list when he threw out the first pitch before the Cleveland Guardians’ game against the Chicago Cubs at Progressive Field on Tuesday night. As he looked for the sign in front of the Guardians’ hot dog mascots, onion, ketchup and mustard, “MGK” appeared to be preparing to throw the ball to home plate.

Instead, the 34-year-old rapper ran to the team bench and chased the ball high into the stands.

Just a little outside.

Machine Gun Kelly, who grew up in Cleveland, was in Ohio this week for the annual โ€œMGK Day.โ€ The first 10,000 fans in attendance at Progressive Field on Tuesday night received a customized 27 Club Coffee bag โ€” merchandise from MGKโ€™s coffeehouse, which he opened in Cleveland in 2020.

Those who did not receive the personalized bag will go home Tuesday night as witnesses to one of the most unique first pitches in recent MLB history.
