The new trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection focuses on the game that started it all

At least in terms of fighting games

It’s the mid-’90s. You walk outside after watching your Saturday morning cartoon, and your friend across the street tells you this wild story about how the guys who made Street Fighter 2 are releasing an X-Men fighting game, and it turns out it’s true.

The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics just received a new trailer focusing on the game that started the now iconic franchise.

X-Men: Children of the Atom may not be a crossover title like the others, but it set the stage for everything that was to follow over the next nearly 30 years.

MvC classics like Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Sentinel and others all got their start here as part of Capcom’s vision for the comic book characters, which remain some of their coolest adaptations to this day.

Everything from the arcade version of Children of the Atom is there and more, as players can even unlock Juggernaut and Magneto as playable fighters via new menu options.

Additionally, the trailer also shows the new Training Mode in action, which includes a hitbox viewer and attack information that all games in the collection will have, along with other features like online multiplayer and galleries.

Technically, X-Men isn’t the first collaboration between Capcom and Marvel since Children of the Atom came out in Japan in late 1994, while The Punisher actually came out in 1993 – but this is the first fighting game that would serve as a basis for the future past.

In addition to X-Men and The Punisher, the new collection also includes Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

The renewed merger of the companies gives fans hope that there will be a new “Marvel vs. Capcom” at some point, even among the current Street Fighter developers.

But even if this were to happen, it would still be several years before a brand new title was released.

We still don’t have a release date for Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection other than a 2024 window, which is when the game is slated to launch on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, though Xbox is left out.
