The debut of the fourth and final season of “Umbrella Academy” was narrowly beaten by “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” the most-watched English-language TV show of the week on Netflix.

The two Netflix series were neck and neck with 8.4 million views for the week of August 5. August 8 saw the fourth season of The Umbrella Academy premiere and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was its second week on the streamer following its August 1 release. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’s viewership increased slightly from its debut week, when the series also took the title of the most-watched English TV show of the week with 7.4 million views.

The viewership of “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” and “The Umbrella Academy” Season 4 was more than double that of the third-best-selling title, “Simone Biles Rising,” with 3.7 million views. The docuseries held steady at number 3 or 4 on the most-watched English TV chart for four weeks during the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where Biles won three more gold medals.

The first season of Love Is Blind: UK came in just behind Simone Biles Rising with 3.6 million views, followed by season 10 of Gabby’s Dollhouse, which came in fifth with 3 million views, and Joe Rogan: Burn the Boats, which spent its second week in the top 10 in sixth place with 2.9 million views.

The debut of the eighth and final season of “Elite” also made waves, with Season 8 becoming the most-watched non-English language TV show of the week with 1.9 million views, surpassing both the miniseries “Miss Night and Day,” which came in second with 1.5 million views, and “Tokyo Swindlers” Season 1, which came in third with 1.3 million views.

The new “SpongeBob” spin-off film, “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie,” continues to be the most-watched English film with 13.4 million views, slightly up from its first week’s figure of 12.8 million. “Ferdinand” followed in second place with 7.3 million views, while “Kingsman: The Secret Service” came in third with 6.9 million views and “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” came in fourth with 6.5 million views.
