Men arrested after high-speed chase that resulted in crash in Horry County

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Police said two men with outstanding arrest warrants were arrested following a chase in Horry County.

According to a police report obtained by WMBF News, 44-year-old Edward Parker and 28-year-old Tyler Smith were arrested after they were involved in a chase with Horry County police early Monday.

According to that report, an HCPD officer saw a Dodge Challenger registered to Parker driving 40 instead of 35 on George Bishop Parkway and attempted to stop the car as it approached Claypond Road. The officer also noticed that Paker’s driver’s license was suspended.

As the car turned onto Claypond Road, Parker allegedly accelerated, reaching speeds of up to 85 mph, according to the report. Parker then allegedly turned onto Burcale Road toward Arrowhead Boulevard, reaching speeds of up to 95 mph.

According to documents, Parker eventually drove onto Riverside Drive and to the end of the road before attempting to turn around at a dead end. During this time, police say, he lost control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch. Both Parker and Smith immediately surrendered after the crash.

Police later learned that Parker had an outstanding warrant from the Horry County Sheriff’s Office, while Smith had an outstanding warrant from the South Carolina Department of Parole and Pardon. WMBF News has reached out to both the Horry County Sheriff’s Office and the PPP to request details on the two men’s warrants.

Smith also reportedly admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in a cigarette pack that police found.

Parker was ultimately charged with failure to stop for blue lights and driving while his license was revoked.

As of Tuesday afternoon, online records show that Parker and Smith are still in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
