Two years after the finale aired, Harington said USA Today the answer: “Since I finished the show, I’m learning to be proud of what we did. The fact that some people were upset about the ending just shows how much it affected people, and that’s a wonderful thing. I’m still processing all of that, but I’m proud of it.”

The actor, who will appear in the new season of industrynow speaks more honestly about his thoughts. In a new interview with GQ hypeHarington attributed the lower quality of last season to exhaustion.

“I think if there was a mistake at the end Thronesis that we were all so damn tired that we couldn’t have carried on any longer,” he said. “And so I understand that some people thought it was rushed, and I might agree with them. But I’m not sure there was an alternative.”

Harington said that when he “looks at pictures of me from this last season,” he sees that he looks “exhausted.”

He continued: “I didn’t have another season in me.”

The actor addressed the finale directly, saying, “I think there were mistakes made story-wise, maybe towards the end. I think there were some interesting choices that didn’t quite work.”

“I can tell you that HBO came to me and asked, ‘Would you consider this?’ My first reaction was no. And then I thought there might be an interesting and important story about the soldier after the war. I felt like maybe there was still something to be said and a story to be told, albeit on a fairly limited scale.

“We spent a couple of years developing it back and forth. And it just didn’t… nothing excited us enough.”

Harington said he “backed out” because he thought, “If we keep pushing this forward and developing it, we might end up with something that is not good.”
