North Carolina fugitive wanted for aggravated murder arrested in Geauga County, sheriff says

CHARDON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) – A North Carolina man who was on the run from aggravated murder charges was arrested in Chardon Township, the Geauga County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.

GCSO said its dispatch center received a tip that wanted fugitive Matthew Dolan of Pender County, North Carolina, was at a home in Chardon Township on August 12.

The 23-year-old man was wanted on suspicion of aggravated murder in North Carolina on August 11, the GCSO said.

19 News’ sister station WECT reported that Dolan was accused of murdering his sister, Megan Elizabeth Dolan.

Megan Dolan’s body was found in a Hampstead home that caught fire, WECT said.

WECT said the sheriff’s office has concluded she was murdered before the fire and believes there is a connection between the fire and the killing.

On Monday, August 12, the Pender County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference to discuss details of a homicide case.

According to GCSO, officers arrived at the home in Chardon Township and found Dolan outside.

Dolan was taken into custody without incident and is being held at the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, the GCSO said.

According to GCSO, officers spoke with Pender County Sheriff’s Office detectives and assisted them with their investigation.

According to GCSO, Dolan is awaiting extradition back to Pender County.
