The upcoming Xbox Game Pass Title named Replaced has experienced another unfortunate delay, this time to 2025. The very first game from Ukrainian developer Sad Cat Studios, Replaced was first announced at Xbox’s E3 presentation in 2021 as a day-one title for Xbox Game Pass, before suffering several delays following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began in early 2022.

When it was first announced Replaced has surprised gamers with its retro pixel art style and cyberpunk noir setting. The stylish 2D action platformer has been at the top of Game Pass subscribers’ wishlists ever since, although eager fans have had to endure several delays as developer Sad Cat Studios continues to endure the ongoing war. Despite this, it seems as though Replaced is nearing the finish line, as it was recently playable at the Summer Game Fest in June.

Players who hoped to finally be able to get their hands on Replaced in the back part of 2024 is disappointed by Sad Cat’s latest Twitter post. The studio has unfortunately announced that Replaced will instead be released sometime in 2025 and briefly mentions that it needs more time to ensure the quality of the game. Sad Cat invited fans to join his Discord server and confirmed that Replaced will be playable at Gamescom later this month. For those who won’t be there, Sad Cat also teased a mysterious surprise for later this week.

Xbox currently has several major first-party AAA games lined up to land on Game Pass in 2025, such as Avowed, Fable, South of Midnight, And Doom: The Dark Agesbut there Replaced is a smaller indie title, Sad Cat and Xbox will likely have an easier time finding a good spot for its release somewhere in the 2025 calendar. As for Sad Cat’s surprise coming later this week, it could simply turn out to be a new trailer, although the “For those not attending” wording at Gamescom makes it sound like the studio is planning a Replaced The demo is scheduled to go live soon, but this has yet to be confirmed.

While Replaced will certainly be missing this year, Xbox’s Fall 2024 Game Pass offer is still pretty strong.
