A schnauzer in Denmark sparked laughter on social media after his owner filmed him waking up from an “epic” nap.

The viral video, shared on Instagram in July under the username gabi_the_minischnauzer, shows the little white dog looking disheveled after waking up from his afternoon nap, with half of his beard hanging down the side of his face.

“POV: The moment you wake up from a nap with a beard like this: you know it was epic,” reads one caption. It’s followed by, “Friends, who can relate?”

Dogs typically need more sleep than we do, but not all of them sleep the same number of hours. Several factors affect the total amount of sleep each pup needs.

According to the Sleep Foundation, puppies need at least 11 hours of sleep per day. Although they sleep less at night than adult dogs, they sleep more during the day.

Adult dogs need between eight and 13½ hours of sleep per day, with an average of about 11 hours. Although they sleep most at night, daytime naps are still very important for them.

Older dogs wake up less often at night, but they also sleep longer in the morning and take more naps.

However, just like people, dogs can be affected by sleep deprivation. Signs include increased reactions to stress stimuli, irritability and mood swings, and poor memory.

“Sleep also appears to have a significant impact on a dog’s ability to learn,” says the Sleep Foundation.

The video quickly went viral on Instagram and has so far received over 8.8 million views and 335,043 likes.

Newsweek reached out to gabi_the_minischnauzer for comment via Instagram comments but was unable to confirm details of the case.

One user, Snickers_and_sassy_schnauzers, commented: “Bed beard at its finest!”

Miss.panda.pop said: “This is the best thing I have ever seen on my Schnauzer.”

Bethwpr wrote: “Grew up with a miniature schnauzer. This happened regularly.”

Sarc48 added: “This is what my white schnauzer looks like when he stands up! So funny.”

Another user, Barbarawelsh275, commented: “We love our boy’s disheveled face when he wakes up from a nap!”

And Merlinthemagicalminischnauzer said, “I know that, friend. Bedbeard, when the nap really hits.”
