First trailer for Kelly Rowland’s new Netflix thriller “Mea Culpa”

The first trailer for Kelly Rowland’s new Netflix thriller “Mea Culpa” has been released.

Directed by Tyler Perry, the film is about a criminal defense attorney who enters into a romantic relationship with her new client – only to discover that he may not be innocent (via Deadline).

“Mea Culpa tells the story of criminal defense attorney Mea Harper (Rowland) who takes on the murder case of Zyair Malloy (Trevante Rhodes from “Moonlight”), an artist accused of killing his girlfriend,” the film’s official logline states.

“As she tries to find out if her secretive and seductive client is really as innocent as he claims, Mea enters a world that is both hot and dangerous.”

In the steamy trailer, Rowland’s character grows closer to her enigmatic client as she searches for evidence to prove he didn’t commit murder. As evidence mounts, the lawyer begins to suspect that not everything is as it seems.

The film also stars RonReaco Lee (Nappily Ever After), Shannon Thornton, Sean Sagar (Our Girl) and his brother Nick Sagar (The Princess Switch).

The Destiny’s Child singer not only plays the lead role, but will also produce the film together with Perry, Dianne Ashford, Will Areu and Angi Bones.

Mea Culpa is Perry’s fourth film with the streaming service. The filmmaker is also working on the upcoming World War II epic Six Triple Eight.

The film tells the true story of the only all-black, all-female battalion given the seemingly impossible task of sorting out three years of undelivered mail.

“Mea Culpa” will be available to stream on Netflix starting February 23.
