Free film event on Labor Day weekend

Free film event on Labor Day weekend

Before you go back to school, join us at the Harbor Theater on Sunday, September 1st at 7 p.m. for a free rocking retro trip down memory lane with “Grease” (1978; 1 hour, 50 minutes) on the big screen.

Starting at 6pm, there will be 50’s themed diner and drive-thru photo booths, a sock dance in the aisles, retro advertisements and cartoons on screen, hula hoops, contests and lots of prizes! Dress up in your best 50’s style skirts, put on cat eye glasses, ankle socks and t-shirts and slick back your greasy hair for a chance to win prizes like retro posters, jewelry, stickers, home decor and more! All activities and the movie are free and open to all ages.

Just as drive-in fun was returning to the harbor in recent years, the lack of drive-in equipment and operators in Maine required us to rethink our movie options for the end of summer 2024. “Grease” seemed like the perfect marriage of casual drive-in atmosphere and indoor comfort. As always, there will be plenty of hot buttered popcorn, candy and sodas at the concession stand.

This is the perfect film to experience the friendships, love stories and adventures of a group of high school students in the 1950s. Welcome to the all-singing, all-dancing world of Grease, the highest-grossinging movie musical of all time. A proper exchange student (Olivia Newton-John) and a leather-clad Danny (John Travolta) have a summer romance, but will it cross clique boundaries?

Come and dance and sing along as you cheer on the antics of teenagers from your own generation or the generation of your parents, grandparents (or great-grandparents)! A truly great opportunity for intergenerational fun.

The Harbor Theater’s auditorium seats 170, but to ensure families or groups can sit together, be sure to arrive early for doors opening at 6 p.m. and take advantage of all the fun activities before the movie starts at 7 p.m. For more information, visit boothbaycinema.org online.
